A new strategy of sorts

August 31st, 2007 at 01:15 am

Well, since I am very much into instant gratification (I mean, why else would I have gotten into CC debt in the first place?) I think I am going to change my CC pay off strategy.
I am now going to concentrate on paying of the smallest card. It has a lower interest rate than the large card but I will be able to pay it off much faster and actually feel like I have accomplished something. I am hoping that small victory will rally me for the rest of the job!
I am also going to call direct tv and cancel my HBO subscription. There really isn't much on and I have Starz which seems to be much more usefull. I also want to cancel the horrid little direct tv magazine also--such a waste of money.
Ofcourse I have some spending to do as well in the coming days--I want to get a new aquarium for my goldfish. She is currently in a 10 gallon and I would like to get her a bigger one since she is about 5 inches. It is a pain to clean out the aquarium now so at least with a larger one I won;t have to clean as often and I will have enough room to put some "furniture" in there for her.

nice credit card story

August 6th, 2007 at 09:50 pm

I know those words together are sometimes an oxymoron but I really do have a nice credit card story.
I have a WAMU visa card that pays me a 1% bonus on all purchases. Last month I figured my bonus was about due so I didn't run to pay off the card immediately because then I would have a large credit and I didnt want that. As soon as it posted (about mid cycle) I immediately paid off the remainder (about $60). Whe I got my statement in the mail I noted an extra credit to my account of .13c. Turns out that I had accrued that much in interest by waiting for the rebate to post and WAMU just deducted that from my account. I guess they didn't want to deal with a .13c check!

ceiling fan effect

August 4th, 2007 at 12:26 am

Well, I have had my ceiling fan up for just about a month and I got my power bill today--it only came in about $18 less than last month. (a 9% reduction) I was really hoping for a bigger differnce but I guess $18 is better than nothing. It is also the hottest part of summer so it may be a losing battle regardless of cost cutting measures.
I still enjoy the fan so it was worth the cost even if I dont save money on the power bill

Coins are good

SO I have a change jar that I place all my loose change into every evening. I was going to wait until it was filled until I rolled them and deposited them. But then I realized that I am actually losing interest by waiting. SO I wrapped them tonight and it amounted to $57.00. Not bad for 5 months.
