Nuclear Power--weigh in

June 20th, 2007 at 10:25 pm

Ok so this is in no way financial but I am just curious to know what you think about Nuclear Power. I have definite opinions but I am curious to see other peoples opinion.
Do you see it as an asset to combat global warning, do you think the risks outwiegh the benefits, are you afraid of another chernobyl?
I welcome all thoughts!

I think if it is done safely, with all the checks in place, and is monitored continuously and responsibly, than it is okay and a cheap source of power. But when it isn't, well, I wouldn't like to live anywhere near it.

I would prefer to see wind and solar power be where our energy dollars go, though as there are no bad side effects to that, really. I mean, a windmill could fall down or something, but the fallout would be limited to anything it landed on.

Nuclear power is much more widely used in Europe than here, but I shudder to think about another Chernobyl. Have you ever seen the PBS documentary about what that place is like now? It's a ghost-city, kind of surreal.

I think there are enough alternative energy technologies we can develop (and i don't think ethanol is viable in the massive quantities that would be needed) that are far less risky to life and health.
